CheckMyWebsite (checkmywebsite.ca) checks the software a website publicly reports and offers paid update services. This page explains what personal information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow Canada’s PIPEDA and Quebec’s Law 25.
When you run a check
We use the website address you enter to make a few ordinary requests to that site — the same ones a browser makes — and read the version information it publishes. We don’t store scan results; each visit to a results page re-checks live.
To prevent abuse we count checks per IP address. These counters are kept by our rate-limiting provider (Upstash) for at most one hour, then deleted automatically.
When you request a quote
We collect the email address, website address and message you type into the quote form. They are sent to our inbox by our email provider (Resend) and used only to reply to you and prepare your quote. We keep this correspondence for as long as needed to serve you, and delete it on request.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, and Google Ads to measure which ads lead to quote requests. These set cookies and send usage data — such as pages visited and whether a quote was requested — to Google. Nothing is set unless you click Accept in the cookie banner; if you decline, these tools run in a cookieless mode that does not identify you.
You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Hostinger) keeps standard technical logs — such as IP address, browser type and the page requested — to operate and secure the service.
Where your information is processed
Our service providers (Hostinger, Resend, Upstash and Google) may process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. We do not sell personal information.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, or withdraw your consent, by emailing info@checkmywebsite.ca. Our person responsible for the protection of personal information can be reached at the same address. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above.
